We dedicate this month’s Campers in the Wild in loving memory of our 2017 Poconos camp sister Christine Cooper, who died of ovarian cancer earlier this month. As we celebrate Christine’s joy through some really tough times, we take our hats off to some of our other CP people for some big accomplishments they are making in their worlds: from becoming a professor (whattt?!), to a Rhodes Scholar, to landing on the cover of People Magazine, tis the season to celebrate our CP peeps making a huge impact:

📚 TIFFany jeanminette 📚

Tiffany Jeanminette came to camp in 2021, she was a Policy & Equity Director for the Louisiana Public Health Institute and as an Organizational Development Consultant for the CDC Office on Smoking and Health. With no clue she was about to change her whole life, leave her job, create her own consulting practice and become a college professor! Now, she’s teaching Healthcare Management at the University of New Orleans’ College of Business. Way to go Tiff! Sometimes (as we know!) the foundation has to crack for the light to come in!

If you’re coming to camp this month please join us in celebrating this special human irl in the picturesque Poconos!

🎉 CJ Correal 🎉

He’s a brilliant high school special education teacher we know and love who just arrived in London to begin a Rhodes scholarship…one of our Herb it Forward Scholars from Philly who’s hitting his next chapter out of the park! The Herb It Forward Foundation has a mission to support the education of young leaders in Philadelphia through their scholarships & community building initiatives. Each June for the last six years, we’ve shared some incredible camp weekends with hundreds of hardworking, motivated students, driven to make a difference in their communities. We met CJ when he was a freshman…now he’s a first-generation college graduate of Franklin & Marshall (Class of 2020) and a recent graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education.

As an undergrad, CJ worked two jobs and an internship (on top of his extracurriculars) to live up every moment in college, while still making ends meet. As a full time Penn grad student, CJ also worked full time as a high school teacher.

And now he’s the recipient of a UK-US Fulbright Education award in Social Justice and Education award! CJ will be attending is the University of College London (UCL) Institute of Education (#1 in Education!!). His main goal? To soak it all in while living his purpose: to improve EDUCATION.

We can’t wait to see what London teaches CJ and more importantly, what CJ will share in the years ahead as a role model to the next gen. You can keep up with his travels on his blog cesing.the.moment

💘 Mercedes Soler 💘

Mercedes Soler is a multiple Emmy award winning journalist (who just happens to be one of our esteemed CP experts!) who landed on the cover of People magazine en Espanol this month! For 18 years, Mercedes was a reporter, correspondent and investigative journalist at Univisión, the largest Spanish language TV network in the US. She’s reported from all corners of Latin America, anchored and moderated in-depth network programs, and now, alongside her husband, runs their own group of Spanish radio stations in southwest Florida.

We are SO beyond proud of them for bringing Spanish language programming to an area that’s been waiting a very long time for this…
