When the “Campowerment Crew” headed up to Malibu on Thurs, Nov 8 to prepare for Campowerment’s 23rd women’s empowerment retreat, at Camp Gindling Hilltop, we could never have known the deadly and historic Woolsey Fire was just hours away from destroying the beloved camp that was home to 16 of our retreats since 2013.

Thanks to the diligent work of the LA + Ventura County Sheriff’s and Fire Departments, the Malibu Fire Station, our 22 staff (“Campower Rangers”) safely evacuated and were able to call off the retreat before the rest of the 160 women were to convene on that Malibu Hilltop the following day, at the place where our dream was born five years ago.

Despite our recent setback , we remain true to our commitment to light up the world with positive conversation and, alongside the best and brightest women, build the future we’ve been dreaming about…starting now. 

In 2016, we launched a non-profit* arm of Campowerment (called Give Her Camp) to provide scholarships to women who deserve our opportunity to re-ignite their lives, and through the generosity of our small-but-mighty community, we’ve provided nearly 50 “bunk spaces” to Campowerment, for deserving women who could truly benefit from support, encouragement and tools to take their lives in a more positive direction.

This Giving Tuesday (11/27), after inadvertently being given the opportunity to rise from the ashes, we’re looking for the world — our community and beyond — to help us GIVE BACK to those who suffered worse than we did in the California fires, and who are rising already, as we are. 

We want to find 5 women who have exhibited extraordinary bravery in the face of the California wildfires…so that they can rise with us at Campowerment, where they can reimagine their lives, alongside a community that’s rooting for them.

We’re hoping that YOU can help us find those women, gift them a Campowerment bunk space at one of our upcoming retreats, and share their story of how giving and receiving are meant to be life partners…
